Keep Your Building up to Code with Barrier-Free Washrooms

One of priorities for the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) is to set new building washroom requirements to help build a more accessible Ontario. As of January 1, 2015 the New Accessibility Amendments to Ontario’s Building Code came into effect. The new code requires:

  • One universal washroom for every three floors
  • Universal washrooms located where most suitable within each building
  • Large renovations require universal washrooms to have an enclosed area equipped with a barrier-free toilet and sink

The universal washroom requirements enhance accessibility in newly constructed buildings or buildings which are undergoing renovations that are more than 300 sq. ft. The aim is to convert existing washrooms into barrier-free accessible facilities. At Hi-Tech Door Automation in Guelph, we work with you to build accessible and safe washrooms for challenged individuals who would otherwise need special assistance.
